NBA Foundation Provides $160,000 in Grants to Support Continued Disaster Relief Efforts in Greater Houston Area

New York, NY, February 22, 2021 - The National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) Foundation is pleased to announce that it will provide roughly $160,000 in grants to three (3) Houston-based organizations to aid in the long-term recovery efforts that started after Hurricane Harvey and have been exacerbated by the recent severe winter storms.

The NBPA Foundation will provide grants to the following organizations:

  • Houston Immigration Legal Services Collaborative (HILSC)  - The HILSC is focused on providing undocumented immigrant populations with resources and support by fostering cross-sector collaboration with government, local businesses, and nonprofits.

  • Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation - The Fifth Ward Community Redevelopment Corporation helps families rebuild their homes and restore vibrant communities after a disaster.

  • East Harris County Development Council (EHCEC) - The EHCEC exists to improve the quality of life through innovative programs and services that empower men, women, and youth to achieve their full potential. Amid natural disasters and the COVID-19 pandemic, the EHCEC serves as a resource center and hub for the community of East Harris County.

“We know that the impacts of these storms have been overwhelming,” said Sherrie Deans, Executive Director of the NBPA Foundation. “We hope that this will help the citizens of Houston begin to recover and rebuild.”

“It's been difficult this week to see the city of Houston suffer once again from storms,” said NBPA President Chris Paul. “I am grateful that we can use these funds to immediately assist people in communities that need it more than ever.”
